Kooky Costumes

Hello readers!

Once again I am behind on posting, but better late than never, right? This last month has been a bit crazy between the Hurricane, loss of our fridge as a consequence of the Hurricane (new fridge finally purchased, and to be delivered tomorrow after a fridgeless month!), an ongoing outdoor construction project involving our pool and walkways, and the usual juggle between work, school, and J's recent explosion of business travel.

Anyway, in the midst of it all, we did manage to plan some family fun. Our Halloween festivities began with a trip to Providence's Roger Williams Zoo to see their Jack O'Lantern Spectacular.

Here is S trying to make her expression mirror the pumpkin.

The show had 5000+ pumpkins on display, and they go through 20,000 pumpkins over the course of the show. The workmanship was truly impressive. Here is one example from their Lion King area - they also had amazing pumpkins with Muppets, Star Wars, Lord of the Rings, Avatar, Wizard of Oz, Neil Armstrong, Michael Jackson, and lots of other themes. It was amazing!

When the big day arrived, the kids showed off their costumes. S created her own costume by borrowing a couple items from her friend, pairing them with items from her closet, and all I provided was the cowgirl hat. She did a great job, as did N in emulating her fish lips for her costume!

This is probably the only time you'll see a cowgirl and fish posing together like this. I actually had 3 costumes to choose from for N. She was changing her mind daily, so I just held on to all the options rather than have a sad trick-or-treator on Halloween. Maybe she'll use one of the other costumes next year!

As for our jack o'lanterns, this year because of all the chaos we were dealing with, the pumpkin carving was finished off on October 30 at 11 pm, so they aren't quite as elaborate as other years, but they still turned out very nicely!
