Diwali

Diwali is the festival of lights in India, and here in the US, the festivities abound as well. Sonali was very lucky to be invited to perform with a group of her friends at a local celebration, and the dance they performed was a lovely devotional one. It was also our first time managing a performance without the help of the school staff, teachers, founder, etc, so it was a test for the parents as well! Luckily, we all managed to cover the bases together, and the girls did a spectacular job. They kicked off the festivities with Pushpanjali, in honor of Ganesh.

After them, there were a slew of performers showcasing everything from stand up comedy in Hindi to modern dance to singing of Indian pop songs. While it was entertaining, we were growing wearing as the night continued on and on. Plus, it was a school night. Plus, we had been having an extremely busy few months at work. Plus, I just stepped off a plane a few hours before. In other words, we were having trouble motivating to stay the whole evening, but once Sonali heard that there were trophies in store for the participants - her very first trophy ever - well, we just had to stay.

I think it was worth it.
