Summer days, drifting away...
I feel a little like I blinked and the entire summer passed while I wasn't looking!
We did, at least, manage to get away for a quick trip to Maine to see some friends who live on an island up that way. Our friends treated us to great hospitality, a fun outing on their sailboat, and lots of time unwinding on all different sorts of beaches - sandy, rocky, and tide pooling beaches. It was great to breathe a little sea air before diving into the new school year.
N was enjoying her "mountaineering" expedition.
And she was cracking lots of jokes...
And spending good quality time with Dad.
Here is all of us a whaleback rock just before catching the ferry back.
When we returned, we took our annual family picture in the backyard. The kids are so big!
Then Ma arrived for a visit and to spend some time with the kids before the start of school. Here is everyone getting ready to set off to the first day of school.
The whole neighborhood gathers at a little rock wall for a picture before setting off. The giant pack of kids and parents takes over the walking route to the school
Both S and N were very excited about the start of the school year. They have transitioned well to their new classrooms and teachers, and we are hopeful for another wonderful school year! Next year, hard to believe, both girls will be in elementary school...

It is always so much fun to go back to the time that ran away like a marathon runner. So much fun to see all the kids having a wonderful time together! It is the most rewarding experience for all ages.
