Summer's end

We're about to dive into Labor Day weekend which means just a few days for me until I'm back in the office. The last 10 weeks have gone far too fast, but I've enjoyed every moment with the family. I've loved watching Nalini learn to interact with our family. Here she is giving me a beautiful grin during one of our mother-daughter lunches.



Last weekend, we also took a family trip to a local beach (Duxbury beach), and Nalini enjoyed basking in the sun, taking in the ocean breezes, and



observing her sister's antics! Actually, at lunch today, she spent the entire time trying to get and keep Sonali's attention (which wasn't hard since 99% of Sonali's time is spent smothering her sister with kisses)!



Here's Sonali exhibiting her independence and putting on her own sunscreen in preparation for her big kite-flying expedition with Dad. It was a smashing success - the frog kite went so high up in the sky that we ran out of string, and Sonali loved the experience.



Actually, I've been home with both girls all week since Sonali's school is closed for work week. It's been hectic getting one girl to nap, running downstairs to prepare food for the other, get one to the potty, while the other one wants to nurse, etc. We did have some fun outings, though. Jason took a couple hours out to go to the zoo with us. Sonali especially loved the butterfly house!



Sonali also helped me to take Nalini to the doctor for her two month appointment. Nalini is growing as fast as Sonali did - she's up to 12 pounds 13 ounces which is roughly the 85th percentile - not bad for starting out at the 25th percentile in June. Nalini also had 5 vaccinations which definitely led to some loud crying. I tried to prepare Sonali for it in advance, but the sight of her sister in pain was too much for her, and suddenly I had TWO wailing kids on my hands! They both calmed down quickly, though, and soon we were home to recover. We were also lucky to have special Mommy & Sonali time with fun playdates, art projects, and cooking projects during Nalini's naps.



All in all, it was a wonderful summer, and I will be very sad to be going back to work on Tuesday. Wish me luck with the double kid juggle!
