Poll: When to move the baby to the crib?
So, here's a question for your consideration and comment. When is the right time to transition the baby from sleeping in the parent's bed to sleeping in its own crib? Parents, what have you done to help smooth the transition?

Basically, when you don't want her sleeping in your bed anymore.
Some people never have the baby in their bed, some have her in there over a year. So the "right time" is really up to your personal preference.
Sofia slept in her own bed, a moses basket, on top of our bed for the first couple of months. This was the most practical for middle of the night feedings. That way Ray could share in the miserable bliss of waking up in the middle of the night -- he would get her for me and put her back when she was done eating. When she didn't wake up as often during the night to nurse (only once a night), she slept in her moses basket right next to the bed. At four months, we felt it was the "right time" for us to move her to her own room. She was outgrowing the moses basket and was sleeping through the night. So we didn't have to get up and walk in her room to get her in the middle of the night. She also wasn't old enough to realize she was sleeping somewhere else. The the transition was really easy. We simply put her in the moses basket inside her crib for a couple of days and then she started sleeping in the crib by herself.
So in my opinion, a good time to put her in her own room is when she's sleeping through the night and before she develops a preference for sleeping with you. But all babies are different and so are parents, so do what feels right to you.
My opinion is to have 5 more kids and see if they all want to sleep in your room. Actually the concensus in the room I'm in is that the crib is like a prison and the longer they stay the more they get used to the cell. So it was always a crib for me.
